About The Position

As a PennDOT CDL Operator Trainee with the Department of Transportation, you will begin a pathway toward a meaningful and steady career. This role provides training that prepares you to keep Pennsylvania's roads safe. You will gain skills, confidence, and real-world experience while working with our team in Beaver County. This position is a six-month trainee role that prepares you to operate equipment and support highway and bridge maintenance work. It provides hands-on learning, licensing preparation, and guidance in safety and work procedures.

Requirements

  • Must be in possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
  • All employees must possess an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner's Permit on the first day of work.
  • All positions require employees to possess an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations by the first day of work.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Learn to operate heavy trucks, loaders, and other maintenance equipment as part of daily work
  • Follow proper safety procedures, stay aware of surroundings, and report hazards or incidents immediately
  • Use motorized and non motorized hand tools and select equipment properly to complete tasks
  • Perform and document pre-operation and post-operation inspections and make basic adjustments as needed
  • Carry out environmental protection requirements and follow training guidelines for this role
