Drivers keep the tractor interior clean, obtain customer signatures for receipts, and turn in receipts, payments, delivery records, and mechanical-problem reports. They must follow applicable FSMA Section 111 and Sanitary Transportation of Human and Animal Food guidelines. Other warehouse or driver duties may be assigned. Drivers work long hours, including common evenings, and the shift may start late at night or early in the morning. The typical workweek is Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week, but evening, night-shift, overtime, and weekend hours are common in some branches. Some drivers travel on nights, holidays, and weekends to avoid traffic delays. Routes may vary; some drivers may handle long-distance driving and be away from home for two to four days, depending on the branch. Work can be strenuous and may involve lifting, carrying, and walking. Drivers may be exposed to heat, cold, dust, and irritants.
