About The Position

The CDL Compliance Coordinator oversees commercial driving compliance for temporary personnel assigned to operate customer-owned or customer-managed commercial vehicles. This role administers driver qualification, CDL verification, certification tracking, transportation safety compliance, and drug-and-alcohol testing in accordance with FMCSA, DOT, and applicable state and customer regulations. The coordinator maintains audit-ready Driver Qualification Files (DQF) and serves as the program's subject-matter expert on commercial-driver workforce compliance.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or equivalent experience in transportation, safety, HR, or related field; Bachelor's preferred
  • 4+ years of FMCSA / DOT commercial-driver compliance experience
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of 49 CFR Parts 382, 383, 390, 391, and 395
  • Experience administering FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse queries
  • Experience maintaining Driver Qualification Files (DQF) in audit-ready condition
  • Familiarity with Motor Vehicle Record pulls, PSP checks, and CDL endorsement requirements
  • Strong attention to detail, document-management discipline, and records-retention practices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

Nice To Haves

  • TSC (Transportation Safety Compliance) certification or NATMI Certified Director of Safety / Certified Safety Supervisor
  • Experience supporting municipal, state, or county commercial-driver workforces
  • Familiarity with Arizona Department of Transportation requirements and Tucson fleet operations
  • Working knowledge of OSHA general-industry and transportation safety standards
  • Experience with electronic DQF and compliance-management platforms
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted compliance and document-review tools

Responsibilities

  • Maintain Driver Qualification Files (DQF) per 49 CFR Part 391 for every CDL-classified assignment
  • Verify commercial driver licenses, medical examiner certifications, and applicable endorsements at hire and at renewal
  • Administer FMCSA pre-employment, random, post-accident, return-to-duty, follow-up, and reasonable-suspicion drug and alcohol testing per 49 CFR Part 382
  • Coordinate Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) pulls, periodic reviews, and Pre-Employment Screening Program (PSP) checks
  • Track expiring CDL credentials, medical cards, and endorsements; coordinate timely renewals
  • Maintain Clearinghouse queries (limited and full) per FMCSA requirements
  • Support transportation safety initiatives including hours-of-service awareness, vehicle inspection, and incident response protocols
  • Coordinate with customer Risk Management, Fleet, and Human Resources on driver qualification and assignment decisions
  • Investigate and document driving incidents, near-misses, and customer-reported concerns
  • Provide CDL-related onboarding orientations and refresher communications
  • Maintain audit-ready DOT compliance documentation and respond to FMCSA, state, or customer audits
  • Brief the program team on regulatory changes affecting commercial-driver workforce compliance
