About The Position

The Compliance Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of cross connection control, lead and copper testing, water service lines inventory, septic tank inspections and certifications, and any other State, Federal, or City regulatory programs impacting the Department of Public Works. This includes tracking requirements, record keeping, reporting, interacting with residents and business owners, and performing inspections. The role also involves coordinating legal action against non-compliant parties with the Southfield Legal Department, providing court testimony, and presenting evidence. Additionally, the coordinator will manage court procedures, coordinate department inspectors to balance schedules and obtain necessary inspections and reports, and prepare various documentation for record maintenance. This includes tracking inspections, Certificates of Compliance, and fees collected.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or Engineering or equivalent related experience in coordinating high-volume of compliance requirements
• Four years of directly related experience including knowledge and proficiency in applicable laws, standards, zoning and other ordinance requirements, court rules, legal compliance procedures, remediation processes, certificate of compliance requirements, and other unique and varied resources to accomplish desired results of well-maintained and compliant City infrastructure, primarily water and sewer.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office and GIS
• Ability to navigate through internet resources.
• Ability to prepare, organize and maintain a variety of field data, reports and systems under tight deadlines.
• Must be able to work independently without close supervision.
• Effective written and oral communication skills
• Ability to compose tactful correspondence and maintain detailed records
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Good judgment and positive attitude when working with the public.
• Sufficient analytical, cognitive and physical skills to effectively perform the essential functions of the position, with or without accommodation.
• Must possess a valid Michigan Driver’s License and meet the City's driving record standards.
• May be sworn as a Constable, with ticket-writing enforcement powers.

Responsibilities

• Provides court testimony and presents evidence.
• Follows all court procedures from initiation through follow-up actions.
• Coordinates Department inspectors to balance schedules and obtain necessary inspections and reports.
• Prepares reports, forms, statistics, letters, court documents, invoices and other documentation to maintain files and records.
• Tracks inspections, Certificates of Compliance and amounts of fees collected i.e. application fees, permits fees, re-inspection fees and court fines.
