About The Position

Ryder is hiring a Class A CDL truck driver in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. This is a local route delivering solo to New York City and all five boroughs, with drivers home daily. The position uses a day-cab tractor and 28-foot and 42-foot pup trailers to transport touch-freight retail goods. Drivers may use a pallet jack and liftgate. Ryder trucks are described as well-maintained, safe, and 36 months old or newer, with 24/7 roadside maintenance and fueling available at more than 800 nationwide maintenance locations.

The position pays $28 per hour, with weekly pay of $1,540 or more based on 50 or more hours per week and the run. The work week varies by shift, with start times between 3:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. Ryder offers benefits including medical, dental, and vision coverage after 30 days; PTO accrual starting on day one; uniforms, a cell phone, and a boot allowance; a 401(k) rollover option and company match after one year; paid maternity leave subject to eligibility criteria; and employee discounts. Requirements

• Be at least 21 years of age.
• Pass a Ryder drug test.
• Pass a Ryder background and motor vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last three years.
• Pass a DOT physical.
• Pass a Ryder road test.
• Provide the appropriate CDL and endorsements for the position.
• Have verifiable Class A experience in a tractor-trailer or comparable vehicle: 9 months within the past 3 years, or 2 years within the last 5 years, or 5 years within the last 10 years.
• Be able to follow written and/or oral instructions.
• Be able to read, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and/or procedures.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, agency rules, standards, and guidelines.
• Detect and eliminate or minimize safety hazards.
• Maintain accurate records and logs.
• Load and unload freight, or assist with loading and unloading when required by the customer.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
