About The Position

The CDL Class A Driver (LTL) drives a tractor-trailer combination or straight truck to deliver and pick up palletized freight and/or large shipments. The position is based in Aberdeen, South Dakota. The schedule is Monday through Friday, starting at 7:30 a.m. and continuing until the route is complete. The role is expected to include 10–15 hours of overtime each week, paid at time and a half after 40 hours per week. Pay is $24.00–$30.75 per hour, based on experience. Spee Dee Delivery is a family-owned and operated company founded in 1978. Its core business is standard, next-day, ground delivery, and it has expanded throughout the Midwest. The company employs more than 1,800 people. The driver performs vehicle inspections and paperwork, delivers and collects freight, verifies shipment documents, and maintains required certifications and equipment. The role involves handling a variety of freight, including hazardous materials, perishable food and alcohol, firearms, ammunition, and live animals. Applicants must pass a pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check.

Requirements

Be at least 21 years of age.
Hold a valid CDL Class A driver's license and have a good driving record that meets company standards.
Be able to operate a manual transmission.
Possess or be able to obtain a doubles/triples endorsement.
Have good customer service and organizational skills.
Be able to work independently and make quick decisions.
Be able to pass a DOT physical.
Be able to lift 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
Have a full range of motion for grasping, standing, squatting, stair climbing, walking, and other activities, with no limits.
Be able to work with freight that may include hazardous materials, perishable food and alcohol, firearms, ammunition, and live animals.
Pass a pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check.

Responsibilities

Conduct a pre-trip inspection to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
Submit the pre-trip form and complete mileage and maintenance forms.
Deliver palletized freight to customers in a timely manner and pick up freight from shippers.
Verify that all load-related documentation is complete and accurate.
Collect payment for shipments when necessary and return bills of lading to the office for billing.
Maintain all certifications required by the DOT and company safety policies.
Wash the exterior of the tractor and equipment daily.
Assist other drivers with loading, delivery, or pickup as needed.
