The CDL-A Local Retail Driver hauls dedicated retail freight from the distribution center in Shafter, California. The no-touch operation averages approximately 2,000 miles per week, with deliveries throughout California’s Central Valley, the greater Los Angeles area, and Las Vegas, Nevada. Drivers swap trailers at store locations and secure them using store-provided kingpin locks. Company trucks remain at the distribution center and cannot be taken home, so drivers must arrange their own transportation to and from the facility. Average weekly pay is $1,200. Mileage pay is based on experience, ranging from $0.57 per mile for less than one year to $0.68 per mile for five or more years. Additional pay includes $20 for loads under 100 miles and $15 per qualifying sweep or backhaul. Drivers typically work five to six days per week depending on freight volume and receive one consistent day off each week. The operation runs 24/7 and requires night driving. Drivers are generally home daily when routes allow, though overnight stays may be required based on customer needs and freight volume. Weekend and holiday availability is required.
