This role is for a CDL-A driver hauling regional dry van freight along the eastern seaboard, generally not traveling far west. Freight includes drop-and-hook and preloaded loads, as well as some live loads and unloads. Drivers are home every two weeks and receive an assigned truck. New drivers may be hired directly from CDL school if they have a certificate for at least 120 hours. A mentor rides with each new driver for 4 to 6 weeks, coaching them on backing, trip planning, logs, and fueling. During training, pay is $650 per week. After training, drivers are guaranteed at least $1,000 per week for their first three months solo. Average weekly gross pay is $1,200 to $1,800. Starting mileage pay is $0.55 per mile, increasing by one cent annually to $0.65, with $15 stop pay and an expected 2,000 to 2,500 miles per week. The hiring process includes a recruiter review of the driver's license and record, followed by orientation lasting no more than two days. The hotel is paid, the bus ticket is reimbursed, and the driver receives $300 once hired. After mentor training, the driver receives their own truck, averaging about 1.5 years old.
