This entry-level CDL-A driving role is designed for new drivers and offers short regional runs with home time. Loads originate in Ohio and return to Ohio, and drivers take their reset at home. The fleet hires drivers from Butler, Cranberry, and the Pittsburgh area. Routes cover Ohio, western Pennsylvania, Indiana, and Kentucky, with regular runs between Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Erie, Louisville, and Indianapolis. Training lasts 3 to 5 weeks, approximately 200 to 250 hours, with an experienced mentor. Trainees learn to handle drop-and-hook freight, preloaded trailers, and live loads. After the mentor signs off, the driver receives a truck and runs solo with a dedicated planner. Training pay is $850 per week. Solo mileage pay starts at $0.56 per mile, with an average of about 1,800 miles weekly and stated average earnings of $1,200 to $1,400 per week. Additional pay includes $40 for each load under 100 miles, $15 per extra stop, a performance bonus, and a $1,000 weekly guarantee for the first three months solo. Orientation lasts two days or less and pays $300 once hired. A one-way bus ticket is reimbursed with a receipt. The fleet operates late-model tractors averaging about 1.5 years old, with automatic and 10-speed transmissions. After training, drivers may bring one approved dog weighing up to 40 pounds. An adult rider program is available to solo drivers. Cold-weather driving is part of the work, and planners account for winter conditions. Benefits begin after 30 days and include medical, prescription, dental, and vision plans; a 401(k); an employee stock purchase plan; life and disability insurance; and a tuition-free online degree for the driver and one dependent.
