About The Position

KLA’s Central Engineering organization is seeking a hands-on CCD sensor engineer to design, characterize, and integrate image sensor systems. The role bridges sensors, optics, mechanics, and electronics, with work split between laboratory bench activities and design work. The position supports KLA’s Semiconductor Products and Customers business unit, which develops inspection, metrology, and analytics systems and related technologies for semiconductor and electronics manufacturing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with CCD or CMOS imaging sensors.
  • Mechanical aptitude and comfort with fixturing and assembly.
  • Experience troubleshooting analog, digital, and power supplies.
  • Comfort making low-noise measurements and using laboratory instruments such as oscilloscopes, source meters, and photometers.
  • Familiarity with photon transfer curve (PTC) analysis and sensor test methodology.
  • The posting’s minimum qualifications also list: doctorate with 0 years of related work experience; master’s degree with 3 years of related work experience; or bachelor’s degree with 5 years of related work experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Python or MATLAB for data analysis.
  • Experience with cleanroom handling and ESD-safe assembly.
  • Embedded or FPGA experience for sensor timing and readout.
  • Background in cooled, scientific, or low-light imaging.
  • Knowledge of optical alignment, interferometry, or flatness metrology.
  • Experience taking a design from prototype to production.

Responsibilities

  • Characterize CCD sensors, including quantum efficiency, read noise, dark current, linearity, full well, and charge-transfer efficiency (CTE).
  • Design and debug sensors and sensor electronics, including clocking, bias, and analog front ends.
  • Integrate sensors into camera assemblies during prototyping, including mounting, alignment, and flatness work, and occasionally troubleshoot thermal-management issues.
  • Collaborate with optical, firmware, electrical, and mechanical teams on system integration.
  • Build test setups, run calibration, analyze data, and identify root causes of image artifacts.
  • Produce documentation, test reports, and design reviews.
  • Hand off projects to manufacturing and train the manufacturing team when projects enter production.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision, life, and other voluntary benefits.
  • 401(k) with company matching.
  • Employee stock purchase program (ESPP).
  • Student debt assistance.
  • Tuition reimbursement program.
  • Development and career growth opportunities and programs.
  • Financial planning benefits.
  • Wellness benefits, including an employee assistance program (EAP).
  • Paid time off and paid company holidays.
  • Family care and bonding leave.
