CCD Sensor Engineer

KLA•Milpitas, CA
•$117,800 - $200,300

About The Position

KLA is seeking a hands-on CCD sensor engineer to design, characterize, and integrate image sensor systems. The role involves bench work as well as desk work, bridging sensors, optics, mechanics, and electronics. The engineer will contribute to KLA's Central Engineering organization and support the Semiconductor Products and Customers business unit, whose products help semiconductor manufacturers inspect, measure, and analyze chips, wafers, reticles, packaging, process equipment, and materials.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience with CCD or CMOS imaging sensors.
  • Mechanical aptitude and comfort with fixturing and assembly.
  • Experience troubleshooting analog, digital, and power supplies.
  • Comfort making low-noise measurements and using lab instruments such as oscilloscopes, source meters, and photometers.
  • Familiarity with photon transfer curve (PTC) analysis and sensor test methodology.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Python or MATLAB for data analysis.
  • Experience with cleanroom handling and ESD-safe assembly.
  • Embedded or FPGA experience for sensor timing and readout.
  • Background in cooled, scientific, or low-light imaging.
  • Knowledge of optical alignment, interferometry, or flatness metrology.
  • Experience taking a design from prototype to production.

Responsibilities

  • Characterize CCD sensors, including quantum efficiency, read noise, dark current, linearity, full well, and charge-transfer efficiency (CTE).
  • Design and debug sensors and sensor electronics, including clocking, bias, and analog front ends.
  • Integrate sensors into camera assemblies during prototyping, including mounting and alignment, checking flatness, and troubleshooting thermal-management issues as needed.
  • Collaborate with optical, firmware, electrical, and mechanical teams on system integration.
  • Build test setups, perform calibration, and analyze data to identify root causes of image artifacts.
  • Prepare documentation, test reports, and design reviews.
  • Hand off projects to the manufacturing team and provide training when projects enter production.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision, life, and other voluntary benefits.
  • 401(k) with company matching.
  • Employee stock purchase program (ESPP).
  • Student debt assistance.
  • Tuition reimbursement program.
  • Development and career growth opportunities and programs.
  • Financial planning benefits.
