Catholic Substitute Teacher
About The Position
Regina Caeli Academy is seeking a part-time substitute teacher to teach in a classical Catholic classroom at its center in Camas, Washington, near Portland, Oregon. The substitute is called in as needed when staff are sick and may decline assignments when unavailable. The role is hourly and offers up to 14 hours per week during the academic year, on Mondays and Thursdays from 8:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Childcare and nursery are provided. Regina Caeli Academy is a national classical homeschool academy in the Catholic tradition that offers instruction in a formal Socratic classroom setting. Curriculum and grading guidelines are provided, and tutors are trained in RCA standards for instruction and classroom management. Teaching certification and formal teaching experience are not required. All staff must complete a clear background check and RCA Safe Child training before teaching. Applicants must be able to sign an Oath of Fidelity to the Catholic Church and live the Catholic faith day to day, including having received the sacraments appropriate to their state in life.
Requirements
- Must be able to sign an Oath of Fidelity to the Catholic Church and have a deep love for the Catholic faith.
- Must live the Catholic faith day to day, including having received the sacraments appropriate to their state in life.
- Must complete a clear background check and RCA Safe Child training before teaching.
- Strong communication skills, good organization, and timeliness.
- A traditional view of the student/teacher relationship.
- Teaching certification and formal teaching experience are not required.
Nice To Haves
- Experience homeschooling or working with homeschool children.
- Experience in Catholic parish ministry or teaching Religious Education or Catechism classes.
- Experience teaching one's own children or teaching in a classical or private school.
Responsibilities
- Teach in a classical Catholic classroom when called upon to cover for staff who are sick.
