Catholic Substitute Teacher
About The Position
Regina Caeli Academy is a national classical homeschool academy in the Catholic tradition, offering instruction in a formal Socratic classroom setting. The academy seeks a part-time substitute teacher to teach in Jacksonville, Florida, for 13 hours per week during the 2026–2027 academic year. Substitutes are called as needed when staff are out sick and may decline assignments when unavailable. No teaching certification or formal teaching experience is required; training, curriculum, and grading guidelines are provided. Tutors are trained in instruction and classroom management according to RCA standards. Applicants must be able to sign an Oath of Fidelity to the Catholic Church and have a deep love for the Catholic faith. They must be living the faith day to day, including having received the sacraments appropriate to their state in life. All employees must complete a clear background check, and staff complete RCA Safe Child training before teaching. Childcare/nursery is provided. Center hours are Mondays and Thursdays, 8:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. No additional vacation days are given; accommodations are made for sick days as needed.
Requirements
- Be able to sign an Oath of Fidelity to the Catholic Church and have a deep love for the Catholic faith.
- Live the Catholic faith day to day, including having received all sacraments appropriate to one's state in life.
- Complete a clear background check.
- Complete RCA Safe Child training before teaching.
- Strong communication skills, organization, and timeliness.
- Have a traditional view of the student/teacher relationship.
Nice To Haves
- Experience homeschooling or working with homeschool children.
- Experience in Catholic parish ministry or teaching Religious Education or Catechism classes.
- Experience teaching one's own children.
- Experience teaching in a classical or private school.
Responsibilities
- Teach in a classical and Catholic classroom when called upon to substitute for staff who are out sick.
