About The Position

Bristol Farms is seeking a Catering Manager to join their team. This sales-oriented role requires excellent communication skills, high stamina, and a people-oriented approach to successfully interact with diverse personalities in a warm and friendly manner. The Catering Manager will enjoy customer contact, actively solicit new clients, and build long-term client relationships. Strong communication with other catering personnel is crucial for the success of the Bristol Farms Catering Department. Requirements

  • Experience and background as a lead caterer or a manager in other food service industries (hotels, country clubs, gourmet markets, or restaurants).
  • One-year certificate from college or technical school and a minimum of two years of work-related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A valid California Driver License and an excellent driving record.
  • Ability to read, interpret documents (procedure manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions) in English.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence in English.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees.
  • Ability to speak, read, and understand English.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, and volume.

  • Coordinates menus, table and equipment schematics, rentals, outside staffing, service and chef itinerary, order list, floral, and any other service a customer may require

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the activities of all catering workers, including Bristol Farms employees and contract laborers, in order taking, production, delivery, and execution of catered events.
  • Leads by example, modeling correct behavior and adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Compiles lists of prospective customers for sales leads using various sources like newspapers, business directories, Chamber of Commerce meetings, referrals, and company databases to promote Catering Department services.
  • Travels to call on regular and prospective customers to solicit orders, requiring coordination and approval from the Store Director, and completion of a Business Solicitation form.
  • Maintains the customer database, ensuring accurate files and proper customer information for all orders, which must be kept filed for one year.
  • Works with the Corporate Business Services Representative to send Thank You cards and flyers to customers.
  • Collaborates closely with Catering Coordinators, Production Supervisors, and Drivers to ensure timely delivery and pick-up.
  • Drives the Catering van to assist with deliveries as needed.
  • Loads and unloads equipment and food onto and off catering vans.
  • Assists with kitchen production and deliveries as needed.
  • Maintains a clean and sanitary work area at all times.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of authorized cleaning chemicals and their proper usage.
  • Follows the FIFO rotation system for leftover foods, ensuring proper covering, labeling, dating, and utilization.
  • Inspects food and food preparation, including temperature checks, to maintain quality and sanitation according to FDA and local health codes.
  • Follows safety work standards and reports any safety hazards to the Store Director.
  • Reports on and investigates all accidents occurring in the Catering Department, ensuring compliance with Cal-Osha SB198 rules and regulations.
  • Works with the Catering Coordinator, Food Service Manager, and Catering Production Supervisor to order food from outside vendors and the in-house Central Kitchen.
  • Ensures all catering orders are accurately priced at the proper food cost of 30%.
  • Assures that all custom recipes are approved and accurately priced through the corporate office.
  • Maintains constant communication between all food service groups (Deli, Restaurant, Catering, and Cheese) to achieve customer satisfaction.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day training of catering staff in all aspects of their jobs, including equipment use, sales techniques, food preparation, presentation, delivery, record keeping, billing, reporting, personnel issues, and scheduling.
  • Strictly follows and enforces liquor laws, including verifying identification and ensuring alcohol is served only to individuals aged 21 and over.
  • Coordinates menus, table and equipment schematics, rentals, outside staffing, service and chef itineraries, order lists, floral arrangements, and other customer-requested services.
  • Prepares weekly schedules and directs all Catering employees and contract laborers, considering busy and slow times for optimal talent placement (coordinated with Store Director and Food Service Manager).
  • Plans events in conjunction with customer needs.
  • Responsible for maintaining food service gross margin.
  • Responsible for food service labor and cost.
  • Provides samples to clients to aid in sales.
  • Promotes all services of the Catering Department.
  • Implements outside events, including company donations, through participation and/or supervision.
  • Investigates and resolves food quality and service complaints to ensure customer satisfaction and retention.
  • Serves customers with a smile and willing attitude, establishing relationships to ensure repeat business and high sales.
