About The Position

The Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) is seeking qualified candidates for Casual Teacher Assistant / Casual Early Childhood Educator positions for the 2026-2027 school year across all SRCE locations. The SRCE is part of Nova Scotia's public education system, established to support student learning, achievement, well-being, and success. With approximately 1,166 employees, the SRCE operates 20 schools serving about 5,948 students and 375 children in pre-primary programs across 14 locations. Located in northeastern Nova Scotia, the SRCE's jurisdiction covers Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness, and Richmond counties. This position falls under the CUPE Local 955 job classification. Requirements

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to provide personal care as required.
  • Current certified training in CPR and First Aid or willingness to obtain.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively in an active, child-centered learning environment.
  • Experience working with children or youth in a professional or volunteer capacity.
  • Sensitivity and respect for diverse learners.
  • Must comply with Strait Regional Centre for Education policies and procedures.
  • Provide at least three (3) work-related references; one must be your most recent supervisor.
  • Provide a current (within the last 6 months), and clear Criminal Record Check-Vulnerable Sector and Child Abuse Registry prior to employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Teacher assistant training through a recognized diploma or certificate program which includes a personal care course and a school practicum or a supervised work experience placement in a residential group home setting.
  • Level 1 ECE Certification.
  • Training in non-violent crisis intervention.
  • Education and training in the use of assistive technology, including computers.
