SRCE - 2026-2027 - Casual Cafeteria Worker
About The Position
The Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) is seeking qualified candidates for Casual Cafeteria Worker positions for the 2026-2027 school year. These roles will support various schools within the SRCE, including Dalbrae Academy, SAREC, St. Andrews Consolidated School, and Dr. John Hugh Gillis Regional High School. The SRCE is part of the public education system in Nova Scotia, established to support student learning, achievement, well-being, and overall success. The SRCE serves approximately 5,948 students and 375 pre-primary children across 20 schools and 14 pre-primary locations. The jurisdiction covers Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness, and Richmond counties in northeastern Nova Scotia. This position falls under the CUPE Local 955 job classification.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in a cafeteria, food-service, hospitality, or customer-service environment
- Current certification in CPR & First Aid or willing to obtain
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Must be organized, neat/tidy and have clean work habits
- Ability to work in a fast-paced atmosphere
- Enjoy working with students
Nice To Haves
- Current Food Handling Certificate
Responsibilities
- Cooking, baking and preparation of food
- Keeping daily accounts and inventory control
- Kitchen duties as required in coordination with the cafeteria team (stocking shelves, cleaning, dishes, etc.)
- Support of the school recycling program
