About The Position

The Cashier is responsible for efficiently processing customer sales transactions at the front registers, maintaining proper control of cash, ensuring customer satisfaction, and safeguarding company assets. The role includes assisting customers as needed, maintaining a friendly and energetic demeanor, and following all Front End Department procedural guidelines. Cashiers walk the store before each shift to learn about promotional and sale items, perform produce walks and weekly testing, and keep checkout areas clean and orderly. The position requires the ability to work varied hours and days as business dictates. The role involves operating a cash register and point-of-sale system; processing payments by cash, check, credit card, gift card, or automatic debit; issuing receipts, refunds, credits, rain checks, coupons, and change; and responding promptly to customers. Physical demands include standing and walking continuously, frequent driving and reaching, and occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds. Some exposure to extreme temperatures is possible, along with ventilation and exhaust fans.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalency degree.
Maintain the highest level of customer service.
Ability to adapt to a changing, high-volume retail environment and work in a cross-functional team.
Ability to take initiative when problems arise and adapt to a variety of situations.
Advanced attention to detail and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
Excellent written communication and documentation skills.
Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills for working with peers and senior management across functions.
Knowledge of MS Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Ability to multitask and strong organizational skills.
Ability to support and contribute to team goals.
Ability to work varied hours and days as business dictates.
Basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
Demonstrated ability to use a point-of-sale system.
Ability to meet the role's physical demands, including continuous standing and walking and occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

One to two years of grocery retail experience in Front End department processes and procedures.
Previous experience in the natural foods industry.

Responsibilities

Walk the store before each shift to become aware of promotional and sale items; perform produce walks and weekly testing.
Compute bills, itemized lists, and tickets showing amounts due.
Receive payments by cash, check, credit card, gift card, or automatic debit.
Issue receipts, refunds, credits, rain checks, coupons, and change due to customers.
Operate the cash register by scanning price-coded items or manually entering PLU or UPC codes, compiling printed lists, and displaying purchase costs, taxes, and rebates.
Greet customers entering the store and respond promptly to customer needs.
Maintain clean and orderly checkout areas and ensure personal items are not in the area.
Perform other duties as assigned.
