About The Position

The Cashier serves customers promptly, courteously, and in a friendly manner to enhance AC&T’s image and make each shopping experience profitable and pleasurable. The role maintains customer relations and service, follows store procedures and company policies, supports inventory and vendor control, and safeguards money, equipment, store records, and other assigned company property. The Cashier maintains a clean, well-merchandised store, follows applicable laws and regulations concerning alcohol, tobacco, lottery, and food service, and reports emergencies or accidents to the Store Manager. The position is accountable to the Supervisor or Manager on a shift-to-shift basis and does not have authority to set prices, make certain merchandise changes, sign agreements, or make cash expenditures. The role requires standing for extended periods, stocking shelves and coolers, handling and carrying items, cleaning the store and surrounding grounds, and working briefly in refrigerated areas and outdoors in various weather. Weekend, holiday, and extended-hour work may be necessary.

Requirements

Be at least 18 years old or have a work permit.
Be able to speak, read, understand, and write English.
Be able to perform mathematical calculations for making change, completing shift reports, and accounting for products during vendor check-in.
Have sufficient visual sharpness to check customer identification when necessary.
Be able to read and understand instructions for operating electronic cash registers and other equipment.
Be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds at least once per shift.
Be able to stock shelves and coolers.
Be able to serve food from a food case maintained at a minimum of 140°F.
Be able to lift and move a 20-pound fire extinguisher and to bend and lift a 20-pound metal plate from an underground storage tank.
Be able to tolerate exposure to gasoline fumes and cleaning products.
Be able to climb a ladder to clean windows.
Be able to sweep and mop floors, dust shelves, carry trash containers outside, and clean the parking lot and surrounding grounds.
Be able to clean bathrooms, including floors, sinks, and toilets.
Be able to enter and work in a 38°F cooler for up to 15 minutes at a time.
Be able to communicate by telephone and/or store intercom.
Be willing to work weekends, holidays, and extended hours when necessary.
Be able to stand for an extended period of time and work briefly outdoors in all types of weather.

Maintain inventory control and vendor control during the shift.
Safeguard monies, equipment, store records, and other assigned AC&T property.
Follow manager-established guidelines that do not conflict with company policies.
Maintain a clean, well-merchandised store in accordance with the Store Manager’s standards.
Follow state and federal laws concerning the sale of alcohol and tobacco products and lottery ticket sales and redemption.
Adhere to state food-service regulations and company rules and regulations.
Report emergencies and accidents immediately to the Store Manager.
Stock shelves and coolers, serve food from the food case, and perform cleaning duties in the store and surrounding grounds.
