About The Position

The Cashier processes member purchases in a courteous and friendly manner. The role includes explaining membership options, verifying and renewing memberships, offering upgrades and loyalty products, scanning merchandise, accepting payments, and providing efficient, high-quality member service. The Cashier also maintains the cleanliness of the front-line department and supports general club housekeeping and other departments as needed.

Team members are expected to follow club policies, procedures, and compliance requirements; act with honesty and integrity; address or escalate member concerns; contribute to a safe and positive environment; and work collaboratively with inclusion and respect. The role supports GOLD Member Standards and club standards through friendly service, clean and organized areas, accurate signage, stocked merchandise, and execution of promotional plans. Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.

Requirements

• Basic math skills preferred.
• Prior cashier or sales experience preferred.
• Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.
• Frequently lift objects up to 50 pounds; may need to lift and move heavier or awkward objects with assistance.
• Occasionally bend, handle, pull, reach, or stoop to examine or scan merchandise.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

• Explain BJ’s membership options and offer appropriate products, including renewals, EASY renewal, loyalty programs, and rewards redemption.
• Provide a high level of customer service and resolve or escalate member concerns as appropriate.
• Check members out in a timely and efficient manner.
• Scan merchandise through the point-of-sale system to ensure accurate inventory counts and purchase totals.
• Fill shopping carts when necessary and assist at self-checkout stations.
• Collect cash, checks, and other charge payments; issue receipts or change due.
• Stay current on merchandise promotions, advertisements, and product information.
• Discount purchases by scanning and redeeming coupons.
• Maintain front-line cleanliness and assist with general club housekeeping when necessary.
• Return resellable merchandise to the sales floor.
• Manage self-checkout and scan-and-pay lanes and assist members with operational or technical difficulties.
• Meet cashier productivity expectations and follow club policies and procedures.
• Work in other departments and perform other duties as assigned.
• Support GOLD Member Standards and club standards, including teamwork, safe and positive experiences, accurate signage, stocked items, and clean, organized areas.
