Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Marriage and Family Therapy or other closely related field; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience with youth in a counseling and /or group home setting.
  • Must receive a verified negative test result on a mandatory drug test before starting in this position.
  • Will be subject to random alcohol and drug testing.
  • May be subject to post-accident and reasonable suspicion alcohol and drug testing.
  • Must pass a required background check through fingerprinting and enrollment in the continuous RAP Back (Record of Arrest and Prosecution Back) program in accordance with current County Human Resources policy requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses and obtains necessary information relating to precipitating events to determine appropriate services and to reduce client and family conflict.
  • Completes documentation including referring agency information, physical and mental health history, and scheduling of appointments.
  • Contacts parents/legal guardians and schedules appointments with clinical specialists.
  • Initiates referrals to needed community resources when appropriate, including follow-up contact.
  • Handles telephone calls to provide assistance, facilitates entrance, and provides information regarding community resources.
  • Interfaces with law enforcement and other referring parties to obtain pertinent information.
  • Screens and assesses youth's behavior as well as physical and mental health to determine appropriate services.
  • Checks youth belongings for weapons or contraband and confiscates unsafe or illegal materials.
  • Completes case recording documentation and all pertinent information in individual client's records as per agency policy.
  • Assists shift supervisor in making decisions and overseeing/directing staff and volunteers regarding discharge of interim shelter duties and responsibilities.
  • Acts as shift supervisor in their absence.
  • Provide a safe, clean, and fair environment by engaging and monitoring youth to promote cooperation and compliance.
  • Attends to potentially dangerous situations including facility and equipment damage.
