About The Position

Under the direction of a Master’s-level supervisor, you will provide critical crisis intervention, protective services, and social casework for older adults who are mentally or physically impaired, abused, or neglected. This role operates on both a voluntary and involuntary basis, requiring a high level of professional judgment and a commitment to elder justice. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited college or university with a BSW or BA/BS (Psychology or Gerontology preferred).
  • Computer literacy and the ability to maintain meticulous records.
  • Proficiency in English required.
  • Ability to travel to clients’ homes using mass transit and navigate physical barriers (stairs, etc.) in residences.
  • Ability to understand and appreciate the roles of race, religion, ethnicity, and sexual orientation in serving a diverse client base.

Nice To Haves

  • knowledge of Yiddish, Russian, Spanish, or Patois is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct preliminary screenings and triage for emergency interventions; provide immediate information and referral services to clients and families.
  • Perform in-home and in-office assessments of social and emotional needs using standardized instruments (e.g., PSA, EISEP-PATH).
  • Develop written case plans including individual/family counseling, benefit screening, and arrangement of services (Home Health Aides, Legal Aid, Housing, etc.).
  • Evaluate clients' capacity to manage their affairs; assist in securing financial management or guardianship to prevent elder abuse and financial exploitation.
  • Conduct ongoing in-home visits to monitor risk, evaluate functioning, and revise case plans in real-time.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule (evenings/weekends/holidays). Respond to "cold weather days" and crisis situations requiring emergency medical or court-ordered actions.
  • Complete required case records, reports, and statistics within mandated timeframes utilizing specialized software.
