About The Position

James Madison University Facilities Management is hiring a Carpet Cleaning Technician to clean, maintain, and make minor repairs to carpets across the university, meeting university standards. The role also involves maintaining carpet-cleaning equipment, supporting entrance mat and hard-surface cleaning programs, tracking chemical and equipment usage for inventory control, and performing emergency water extractions when needed. This is a designated position considered essential to university operations. The employee must work during authorized closings. The regular schedule is Monday through Friday, 9:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., with overtime as required for special events and inclement weather. Employment is contingent upon successfully completing a criminal background check.

Requirements

Considerable knowledge of carpet-cleaning techniques and chemicals.
Ability to operate industrial truck-mounted equipment and related attachments.
Ability to work various shifts and hours.
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
Must be at least 19 years old.
Must possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 24 months and have an acceptable motor vehicle report.
Successful completion of a criminal background check is a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

Professionally clean and maintain carpets throughout JMU and make minor repairs to meet university standards.
Perform repairs and maintenance on equipment to keep it operating optimally.
Continue implementing the entrance mat and hard-surface cleaning program.
Maintain accurate spreadsheets of chemical usage and equipment used for repairs to support inventory control and reordering.
Perform emergency water extractions when necessary.
Work during periods of authorized closings as an employee designated essential to university operations.
