About The Position

James Madison University Facilities Management is seeking a Carpet Cleaning Technician in the Housekeeping Department. The position is responsible for professionally cleaning, maintaining, and making minor repairs to carpets throughout the university, while meeting university standards. The employee also maintains equipment, supports entrance mat and hard-surface cleaning, tracks chemical and equipment usage for inventory control, and performs emergency water extractions when needed. This is a designated essential position and requires work during periods of authorized university closings.

The schedule is Monday through Friday, 9:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., with overtime as required for special events and inclement weather. Employment is contingent on successfully completing a criminal background check.

Requirements

• Considerable knowledge of carpet-cleaning techniques and chemicals.
• Ability to operate industrial truck-mounted equipment and related attachments.
• Ability to work various shifts and hours.
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
• At least 19 years old.
• Valid driver’s license held for a minimum of 24 months.
• Acceptable motor vehicle report.
• Successful completion of a criminal background check.

Responsibilities

• Professionally clean and maintain carpets throughout JMU and make minor repairs to meet university standards.
• Perform repairs and maintenance on equipment to keep it operating optimally.
• Continue implementing the entrance mat and hard-surface cleaning program.
• Maintain an accurate spreadsheet of chemical usage and equipment used for repairs to support inventory control and reordering.
• Perform emergency water extractions when necessary.
• Work during periods of authorized university closings as a designated employee.
