About The Position

The Carpenter Helper assists carpenters and other workers with construction tasks. The role includes preparing and assembling materials, erecting shoring, installing plywood decking, constructing concrete forms and chutes, and helping position and secure materials during installation. The employee also unloads supplies, maintains tools and equipment, and keeps the work area clean and safe. The work may involve uneven terrain, ladders, underground or elevated areas, rebar walls and cages, and narrow rebar mats.

Requirements

Typically requires a minimum of 6 months of industrial construction experience.
Must be able to safely traverse uneven terrain while carrying tools and building materials.
Must be able to climb vertical ladders and work above or below ground as necessary.
Must be able to climb rebar walls and cages and work at heights.
Must be able to walk on and work from rebar mats and other narrow surfaces.
Must safely use hand tools and operate power tools and equipment.

Responsibilities

Communicates with carpenters and others to perform job tasks.
Shapes materials to prescribed measurements using skill saws, table saws, band saws, and similar tools.
Assembles cut and shaped materials by fastening them with nails or screws.
Verifies the trueness of structures using a plumb bob and carpenter’s level.
Erects shoring and installs plywood decking.
Constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete.
Unloads materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
Assists with lifting, positioning, and securing materials and work pieces during installation.
Cleans tools and equipment and performs minor maintenance activities.
Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
Performs tasks requiring safe, dexterous use of hand tools.
Safely operates power tools and equipment.
Adheres to all safety procedures.
