Cargo Agent - Air (RDU)
About The Position
Air General is hiring a full-time Cargo Agent at its Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) location. The role focuses on providing exceptional customer service and handling cargo in compliance with safety and security protocols. The successful candidate can work independently and collaboratively in a team. The position involves varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and some travel may be required for airline-specific training. Air General is a third-generation, family-owned, US-based nationwide cargo handling company serving major international and domestic airlines. It provides air and ocean cargo handling, transportation logistics, and passenger and traveler services at major US airports.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to obtain a valid airport SIDA badge.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Valid, unexpired U.S. driver's license.
- Ability to lift up to 70 pounds.
- Intermediate computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office programs.
- Ability to clearly understand and communicate in English while performing essential job functions.
- Ability to pass pre-employment screenings, background checks, applicable airport and government security background checks, applicable Custom Security Seal requirements, and post-offer drug screens.
- Availability to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to handle stress in a fast-paced, high-noise environment and meet deadlines.
Responsibilities
- Load and unload air cargo from and to vehicles and trucks.
- Safely and efficiently maintain and operate a forklift, tug, and pallet jack.
- Follow FAA, airport, and Air General safety and security procedures.
- Present cargo documents to U.S. Customs, Immigration, USDA, and other relevant agencies to obtain necessary releases and clearances.
- Understand and prepare tracing documentation, perform follow-up, and keep customers informed about shipment progress.
- Take special measures to properly handle valuables, perishables, live animal shipments, and special loads.
- Obtain Customs Log Numbers and appropriate flight clearances.
- Reconcile Master and House air waybills, as applicable.
- Verify booking details and make corrections where applicable.
- Perform other duties assigned by supervisors or managers.
