Caregivers provide direct care and supervision to facility residents during their work shifts, following each resident’s physician’s report and care plan. They implement residents’ daily routines, including personal care, medication management, activities, meal preparation and service, and required recordkeeping. Other duties may be assigned by the Administrator. Responsibilities vary by shift. PM-shift duties include assisting with scheduled resident activities, meal preparation, medication management, housekeeping and laundry as directed, and documentation. Night-shift staff remain awake and on duty to assist residents as needed and complete other assignments from the Administrator. Caregivers support residents with activities of daily living, including showering, dressing, escorting, meals, linen and towel changes, personal laundry, and incontinence care. They check on residents regularly or as specified in care plans, observe and report changes in condition, document incidents for the next shift, follow bowel and bladder training schedules, and provide first aid as needed. Caregivers help maintain facility rules, safeguard residents’ property and rights, and follow infection-control and prevention practices. They report suspected elder abuse, changes in residents’ condition, facility hazards, safety issues, and low supplies to the Administrator, and respond calmly and professionally to emergencies. The role requires compassion, professionalism, communication with coworkers and residents’ families and care professionals, and the ability to recognize signs of illness or distress and know when to notify the Administrator or seek professional assistance. The position may be part-time or full-time.
