About The Position

Dungarvin is hiring a Direct Support Professional/Caregiver to provide person-centered support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, complex medical needs, and mental, behavioral, or physical challenges. The goal is to empower people to live as independently and comfortably as possible while preserving their dignity and respect. The role may involve supporting individuals experiencing verbal or physical aggression, emotional distress, or other behaviors requiring patience, sound judgment, and effective crisis-management skills. Positions are available in Lafayette and Flora, with multiple shifts available.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Valid driver’s license required because the role involves transporting persons served.
• Must be comfortable driving to transport persons served as required.
• Some positions or locations may require a personal vehicle and auto liability insurance.
• Person-centered, patient, and kind.
• Dependable, adaptable, and flexible.
• Observant and detail-oriented.
• Able to serve as a positive role model and work on a team.
• Committed to creating a respectful and collaborative environment.
• Computer skills for documentation.
• Reading, writing, and communication skills sufficient to document care, follow support plans, and collaborate with team members.
• Successful background clearance required as part of onboarding/employment.

Nice To Haves

• Prior experience with intense verbal and physical behaviors.
• Experience in IDD, mental health, psychiatric, and/or security settings is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct support, positive direction, instruction, and assistance to individuals with disabilities.
• Offer hands-on assistance, encouragement, mentoring, and guidance.
• Support individuals’ comfort, safety, and personal growth.
• Assist with daily living activities, including mobility, getting in and out of bed, dressing, bathing, toileting, and personal hygiene.
• Perform housekeeping and laundry duties.
• Transport persons served as required.
• Document care, follow support plans, and collaborate with internal and external team members.
