About The Position

Caregivers provide nonmedical services and assistance to clients in their homes and communities when advanced age or physical or mental disability makes it difficult for them to perform these services independently. The goal is to help clients remain in their residences while receiving care in a caring and respectful manner, consistent with agency policies, industry standards, and state regulations. Services include assistance with activities of daily living and personal care, companionship, meal planning and preparation, routine housekeeping, laundry, transportation, correspondence, shopping, and errands, as specified in the written care plan. Caregivers may provide respite care and support clients in following a written special diet plan. They monitor clients and their environments, report safety concerns or changes in client condition, maintain service records, protect confidential health information, and communicate with supervisors and the care team. The role serves clients across San Diego County. Scheduling is flexible, with no more than 15 hours per day. The posting lists compensation of $18–$22 per hour. Medical, dental, and vision benefits are available after 60 days. The agency does not permit caregivers to administer prescription or over-the-counter medications, change wound dressings or catheter/ostomy appliances, provide gastric or tube feedings, or perform certain heavy or specialized household tasks. Caregivers may hand a client medication that has been set up in a weekly pill box and may empty catheter or ostomy bags.
