About The Position

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) encourages personal growth in adults with developmental disabilities through goal-based support. DSPs provide daily living support to KIM clients in their homes and in the community, motivating and encouraging clients toward their goals while following Residential Service Guidelines.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• At least 18 years old.
• Clear a criminal background check before working alone unsupervised with clients.
• Valid driver’s license or state ID.
• Ability to follow instructions, organize, and set priorities.
• Strong communication skills, including active listening, writing, speaking, and reading comprehension.
• Ability to engage in critical thinking.

Nice To Haves

• Intermediate experience in supported living, preferably with adults with developmental disabilities or other disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Teach and support clients in using emotional and behavioral regulation techniques outlined in their individual plans.
• Help clients achieve personal and program goals, and document goal completions and denials.
• Assist clients with money management, including petty cash, receipts, checkbooks, and EBTs.
• Administer medications correctly and document their administration.
• Transport clients to and from activities and appointments, or arrange transportation as appropriate.
• Complete daily, weekly, and monthly forms, reports, and data sheets.
• Supervise clients’ daily activities and living conditions to support their health and safety.
• Assist clients with daily hygiene and personal care as specified in individual care plans, including brushing teeth, bathing, hair washing, and toileting.
• Assist clients with preparing and eating meals and with grocery shopping.
