About The Position

As an integral part of the Strommen team, Career Peer Advisors will connect with the student body of Augsburg. Peer Advisors (PAs) mentor students in making effective major and career choices through career education and career-related activities. Peer advisors have the opportunity to expand skills in communicating, presenting, problem solving, teamwork, and leadership. Additionally, PAs staff in drop-in hours to assist Augsburg students on resume and cover letter reviews, internship and job searching strategies, and other career related topics. PAs take part in training and regular meetings to develop their career management skills. This role includes paid onboarding and training; specific dates will be shared and discussed during the interview process.

Requirements

  • Current Augsburg University student in good academic standing.
  • Work study eligible.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Comfortable speaking in front of groups and facilitating presentations.
  • Friendly, outgoing, and enthusiastic about engaging with fellow students.
  • Excellent customer service skills and a welcoming attitude.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating as part of a team.
  • Comfortable learning and using technology platforms such as Handshake, Navigate, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a student ambassador for the Strommen Center by promoting career resources, events, and services across campus.
  • Conduct classroom presentations and outreach presentations to student organizations, residence halls, and campus groups.
  • Build relationships with student organizations to increase collaboration and participation in Career Center programs.
  • Table at campus events, involvement fairs, orientation programs, and other outreach opportunities.
  • Engage students in conversations about career development and connect them with appropriate Career Center resources.
  • Assist with planning and implementing student engagement initiatives throughout the academic year.
  • Help identify creative ways to reach students who may not currently utilize Career Center services.
  • Assist with planning, promoting, and staffing Career Center workshops, employer events, career fairs, networking events, and other programs.
  • Welcome students and guests at Career Center events and assist with event setup, check-in, and cleanup.
  • Represent the Career Center at campus-wide events and collaborative programming.
  • Gather student feedback to help improve programs and outreach efforts.
  • Welcome visitors to the Strommen Center and serve as the first point of contact.
  • Handle all front desk and administrative duties, including answering phones, responding to emails, etc.
  • Assist students with Navigate and Handshake, our online career portal.
  • Assist students with resume and cover letter writing, beginning steps of job and internship searches, and connecting to career planning resources.
  • Attend regular supervisor check-ins and staff meetings as able.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace. This includes wiping down desks, taking out trash etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.
