About The Position

As an emerging leader, this role ensures the achievement of contract deliverables, staff satisfaction, and the provision of high-quality services to program participants. The Career Advisor II maintains a strong knowledge base of the state’s TANF requirements and procedures, providing strengths-based case management and career and vocational advising support to a caseload of program participants. This position assumes central responsibility for empowering participants to achieve self-sufficiency by monitoring progress through the program cycle, from referral through retention and advancement efforts. The role involves maintaining a full caseload with a focus on active engagement and support to training and/or employment, serving as the primary employment support for participants approaching their time clock limit for continued cash assistance. The Career Advisor II must maintain expert knowledge of WORCS and the state’s TANF database for accurate documentation and quality assurance. They will also maintain updated information about area resources, trainings, educational opportunities, and employers, facilitating community-based referrals. In partnership with the Business Services Consultant, the role sources employment resources and develops OJT/Job Ready placements. The Career Advisor II attends job fairs quarterly, identifies, develops, and leads engaging curriculum, and suggests innovative ideas to promote participant engagement and long-term success. Serving as a lead staff member at satellite sites, this role develops strong community engagement, ensures high-quality services, and manages workshop schedules. The position also contributes to programmatic needs by developing areas of expertise, creates transitional plans for participants exiting the program, and travels to satellite sites as needed. The Career Advisor II provides on-site support to staff, participates in new staff training, and utilizes supervision for personal and professional growth. They serve as formalized mentors, develop and lead employee satisfaction and development activities, and contribute to the overall success of the program through constructive collaboration. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field and/or 3+ years of working in a career counseling, customer service, or social service role.
  • Experience as an Equus Career Advisor and/or Equus Outreach Coordinator.
  • Self-motivated, flexible, and team player.
  • Strong computer, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Creative, goal-oriented, and work well under pressure; comfortable meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to relate to and motivate individuals, especially those facing barriers to employment.
  • Notable experience and success in developing employer partnerships.

Responsibilities

  • Empowers participants to achieve self-sufficiency by monitoring progress through the program cycle, beginning with referral and continuing through retention and advancement efforts.
  • Maintains a full caseload with a goal of up to 25 cases and a focus on active engagement and support to training and/or employment.
  • Serves as primary employment support for participants approaching their time clock limit for continued cash assistance.
  • Maintains expert knowledge of WORCS and the state’s TANF database to ensure accuracy in documentation and excellence in quality assurance review.
  • Maintains updated information about area resources, trainings, educational opportunities, and employers and provide and facilitate community-based referrals.
  • Sources employment resources and develops OJT/Job Ready placements for participants eager to enter/return to work.
  • Attends job fairs on a quarterly basis to maintain knowledge of employment opportunities for participants with limited or no previous work experience.
  • Identifies, develops, and leads engaging curriculum that motivates and supports participant success.
  • Suggests and develops innovative ideas that promote participant engagement and long-term success.
  • Serves as a lead staff member at satellite sites, developing a strong knowledge of – and engagement with – the community and its resources, as well as ensuring the provision of high-quality services, schedule of workshops, and engagement of program participants.
  • Identifies and develops areas of expertise that supports programmatic needs.
  • Develops transitional plans for participants approaching their program exit to address financial adjustment, retention efforts, and ongoing support.
  • Travels to satellite sites and outlying communities, as needed, to support program participants.
  • Provides on-site, informal support to new and existing staff.
  • Actively participates in new staff training and on-boarding activities.
  • Fully utilizes supervision to support personal and professional growth and advancement, as well as to gain and develop supervisory skills.
  • Serves as formalized mentors to team members as assigned.
  • Develop and lead employee satisfaction and development activities, including staff development sessions, team huddles and other staff meetings.
  • Contributes to the overall success and quality of program by working constructively and collaboratively with other staff members to achieve individual and organizational goals.
