About The Position

United Health Services (UHS) is seeking an experienced physician assistant (PA) to join our growing cardiothoracic surgery service line. The role involves coordinating patient care, counseling patients, rounding on admitted patients, assisting in the operating room, performing physical assessments, completing patient histories and discharge summaries, and ordering medications and treatments. The PA will also be available for call duties, including holidays, and may provide coverage in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) after operating room cases, depending on patient volume. The position is located at United Health Services Hospitals Wilson Square, Heart & Vascular Institute.

Requirements

  • Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA).
  • Current licensure with the state of New York as a physician assistant (PA).
  • Completion of an accredited PA program.
  • Master of Science in Physician Assistant related field
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Vein Harvest experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a focused, collaborative environment providing state-of-the-art Cardiothoracic Surgery services including: VA and VV ECMO, IABP and Impella VADS
  • Experience with Growing TAVR and Minimally Invasive Valve Program
  • Experience with On pump, Off Pump, Hybrid and MICS CABG program
  • Experience with Comprehensive Minimally Invasive Thoracic and Foregut Surgery Program

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate patient care.
  • Counsel patients about concerns under the direction of the supervising physician(s).
  • Round on patients admitted to the hospital; review care plans with nursing staff as established by our physicians.
  • Assist in the operating room.
  • Perform physical assessments on patients and complete patient histories.
  • Complete discharge summaries.
  • Order medications, treatments, labs, etc.
  • Be available for call about patient conditions according to the pre-established schedule.
  • Provide Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) coverage after Operating Room cases (dependent on patient volume).
