About The Position

Hartford HealthCare’s nationally recognized Heart & Vascular Institute seeks an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join the Department of Cardiac Surgery, a prestigious 15-star Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) program. Based at Hartford Hospital, one of the largest surgical centers in the Northeast, this award-winning program is celebrated for its excellence in cardiac surgery, innovative care, and superior patient outcomes. This role offers a collaborative, patient-centered environment, where APPs are empowered to deliver outstanding care and grow professionally as part of a world-class cardiac surgery program.

Requirements

  • Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (APRN), preferably with 1+ years of relevant experience in Cardiac Surgery, critical care, or surgical settings.
  • Eligible for licensure in the state of Connecticut.

Responsibilities

  • Managed preoperative and postoperative care for cardiac surgery patients.
  • Perform bedside procedures including central venous and arterial line placement, intra-aortic balloon pump removal, etc.
  • Provide care for patients undergoing advanced procedures, including heart transplants, ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation), mechanical circulatory support, and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, developing individualized care plans, and closely monitoring progress.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, fostering a culture of teamwork and concise communication to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Support seamless transitions of care between the ICU, step-down, and floor settings.
  • Provide patient and family education, ensuring a clear understanding of the surgical process and recovery journey.
