About The Position

We are seeking a Cardiothoracic Surgeon for a Locum Tenens position in Fort Wayne, IN. This is an inpatient, call-only role covering a 24-hour schedule with an in-house call type. The coverage period is from August 1, 2026, ongoing, with a 1:3 call ratio and a 20-minute response time. The reason for coverage is supplemental, and travel, lodging, and malpractice insurance are covered. The average daily patient volume is 10, with 10 admissions. Rounding is performed for both inpatient and consult patients. The facility utilizes the Cerner EMR system and is supported by RNs, MAs, PA/NPs, and office staff.

Requirements

• Board Certified or Board Eligible
• Licensed in IN
• BLS, ACLS, ATLS certifications
• General CV/thoracic surgery (Open, Endoscopic)
• Coronary artery bypass surgery (On pump, Off pump)
• Congenital defects (ASD, VSD, PFO, etc.)
• Valvular repair
• Valvular replacement
• Aneurysm repair (Cardiac, Aorto-thoracic)
• Lung resection (including VATs)
• Chest wall or pleural procedures
• Esophagus and diaphragm surgeries
• Permanent pacemaker placement
• AICD (Automatic Internal Cardiac Defibrillator)
• Left ventricular assist devices
• TAVR
• CABG
• Vent Management
• Bronchoscopy
• Eval. And management of acute vol/BP issues
• Insertion of Central line
• Insertion of Arterial line
• Insertion of PA catheter
• Insertion of IABP
• General Vascular surgery (Open, Insertion of Central line, Insertion of Arterial line, Insertion of PA catheter, Insertion of IABP)

Responsibilities

• Provide in-house call coverage for Cardiothoracic surgery patients
• Perform emergent cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures
• Manage post-operative patients and conduct ICU rounds
• Respond to inpatient consults and manage admissions
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams for patient care continuity
