About The Position

Independence Health is seeking a Board-Certified/Board-Eligible Cardiothoracic Surgeon to join their surgical team at Westmoreland Hospital. This is an opportunity to join a high-performing, STS-recognized program delivering advanced cardiovascular surgical care in a growing regional health system. The practice has an established cardiothoracic surgery program with a strong regional reputation, performing approximately 500 cardiothoracic procedures annually, including surgical and structural procedures. The program emphasizes quality outcomes and data-driven care, supported by a robust referral network and collaborative medical staff. The facility includes a 22-bed ICU and a 10-bed Step-down unit with 24/7 intensivist coverage. There is a long-established cardiology program with interventional, structural, and electrophysiology services, staffed by 4 interventional cardiologists, 9 general cardiologists, and 3 electrophysiologists. The clinical scope includes the full spectrum of adult cardiac and thoracic surgery, with a focus on minimally invasive procedures and off-pump coronary artery bypass (OPCAB) expertise. There is an opportunity to further develop and expand minimally invasive and advanced surgical techniques. The call schedule is a 1:3 rotation, supported by experienced APPs and hospital-based teams. The surgeon will be part of a dedicated cardiac surgery team, including cardiac anesthesiologists, perfusionists, and specialized OR staff, and will be supported by a team of Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) and clinical staff. The facility offers modern operating suites, advanced imaging capabilities, strong cardiology collaboration, and comprehensive ICU and perioperative support.

Requirements

  • MD/DO with completion of Cardiothoracic Surgery fellowship
  • Board certified in Cardiovascular or Cardiothoracic Surgery
  • Commitment to high-quality, patient-centered care and team collaboration

  • Interest or experience in minimally invasive and off-pump techniques preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform the full spectrum of adult cardiac and thoracic surgery.
  • Conduct minimally invasive cardiac and thoracic procedures.
  • Utilize off-pump coronary artery bypass (OPCAB) techniques.
  • Further develop and expand minimally invasive and advanced surgical techniques.
  • Participate in a Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) recognized program, emphasizing quality outcomes and data-driven care.
  • Collaborate with a robust referral network and medical staff.
  • Provide care within a 22-bed ICU and 10-bed Step-down unit with 24/7 intensivist coverage.
  • Work with a long-established cardiology program including interventional, structural, and electrophysiology services.
  • Participate in a 1:3 call rotation.
  • Be supported by experienced APPs and hospital-based teams.
  • Work with a dedicated cardiac surgery team, including cardiac anesthesiologist, perfusionists and specialized OR staff.
  • Be supported by a highly experienced and talented team of Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) and dedicated clinical staff.
