About The Position

The Carbide Die Maker lays out and plans the sequence of operations for the fabrication and assembly of carbide dies. This role involves troubleshooting setup heading parts, performing die reworking, and processing methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Working experience in fastener manufacturing environment.
  • Advance knowledge and experience in carbide die making.
  • Working knowledge with quality procedures.
  • A minimum of 5 years equivalent combination of technical education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, use precision inspection instruments, and set up and operate all tool room machinery.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and basic technical procedures.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts and calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, ratios, and standard units of measurements).
  • Knowledge of simple algebra and geometry is preferred.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and follow instructions in written and basic diagram formats.
  • Ability to perform and apply different problem-solving techniques, handle internal/external situations, and multi-task functions.
  • Basic knowledge of mainframe computer systems.
  • Familiarity with Spreadsheet and Word Processing software.

Responsibilities

  • Plans the sequence of operations, fabrication, assembly, and layout of all types and sizes of carbide dies from tool drawings, written and verbal instructions.
  • Layouts, sets up, and fabricates all sizes of dies of irregular contours using tool room equipment such as engine lathes, surface grinders, O.D. grinder, tool and cutter grinder, and honing machines.
  • Makes carbide reamers or diamond materials and steel configuration laps for cutting and machining dies to tolerance of .0001/.0002.
  • Performs immediate turnaround of carbide dies that need to be reworked in-process and during operator setup.
  • Loads and unloads items from production machines manually or by using hand tools.
  • Checks own work using comparator, inside hole gauges, test pins, and other inspection equipment.
  • Inspects finished dies for smoothness, contour conformity, and defects.
  • Marks or tags identification on parts.
  • Conducts test runs with completed tools or dies to ensure that parts meet specifications; makes adjustments as necessary.
  • Identifies, performs, and troubleshoots tooling operations in manufacturing for improved quality and tooling life.
  • May represent Factory/Department manufacturing on cross-functional teams, safety committees, or other in-house committees.
  • Assists and trains others in carbide die making operations and techniques as needed.
  • Reports any safety violation, machining equipment misusage, and/or improperly performed work to supervisor.
  • Reports any malfunctioning equipment to leads or immediate supervisors.
  • Keeps work area and equipment clean.
  • Demonstrates technical knowledge and experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, using shop and measuring tools, and precision inspection instruments.
  • Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan, organize, and accomplish set goals and objectives.
  • Works under limited supervision with a certain degree of creativity and latitude required.
  • Complies with company and governmental safety, environmental, and hazardous materials regulations and procedures.
