Amca•El Segundo, CA

About The Position

The Capabilities Director is part of Amca’s Corporate Development team and reports directly to the CFO. The role is central to Amca’s acquisition and growth strategy, supplying commercial diligence on acquisitions, researching companies and capabilities Amca should acquire or build, and supporting post-close value creation. It combines deal analysis, market research, and operational execution, with opportunities over time to take on special projects across the Amca platform. The successful candidate will work frequently with the executive team, engineering and operations leadership, and general managers across Amca’s portfolio. They will develop expertise in the aerospace and defense supply chain and produce rigorous, actionable analyses to inform investment and operating decisions. The role is suited to someone who can work across M&A, strategy, and commercial execution in a broad, fast-moving environment.

Requirements

  • 3–6 years of work experience with demonstrated success in a high-pressure, analytically rigorous role, such as investment banking, private equity, management consulting, corporate development, or strategic finance.
  • Exceptional analytical and research skills, including the ability to size markets, assess competitive dynamics, and build a business case from first principles with limited data and guidance.
  • Strong commercial instincts and understanding of customer relationships, contract structures, and revenue quality in industrial and aerospace businesses.
  • Ability to move between deal work and operational support, including diligence and post-close commercial problem-solving.
  • Ability to execute tactically and develop strategy to solve complex, cross-functional problems, producing high-quality work quickly without sacrificing rigor.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present grounded arguments and distill complex analyses into executive-ready outputs.
  • High ownership and ability to manage multiple workstreams in parallel at a rapid pace.
  • Intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm for learning how things are made, how markets work, and how businesses create value.
  • Comfort working in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment across a broad range of problems.
  • Humble attitude, relentless work ethic, and passion for solving hard problems.
  • Must be a U.S. person within the meaning of ITAR; applicants must meet the applicable U.S. citizenship, permanent residence, or protected-person criteria.

Responsibilities

  • Supply commercial diligence on acquisitions, including sizing addressable markets, assessing market dynamics and competitive positioning, conducting program-level diligence on customer relationships and contract structures, and evaluating a target’s commercial trajectory.
  • Research companies and capabilities Amca should acquire or build, identify targets that fill strategic gaps, develop buy-versus-build analyses, and prepare investment theses to inform capital deployment priorities.
  • Support post-close execution by helping acquired businesses identify and capture commercial value-creation opportunities, tracking performance against acquisition theses, and providing analytical and operational support during integration.
  • Take on special projects across the Amca platform, including strategic planning, competitive benchmarking, operational analysis, and new-market-entry assessments.
  • Develop expertise in the aerospace and defense supply chain, including part families, manufacturing processes, customer structures, and program economics.
  • Work with engineering, operations, and general managers to ground commercial analyses in operational realities and ensure recommendations are actionable.
  • Communicate findings to senior leadership through clear written analyses, market assessments, and investment memos.
