About The Position

Dr. Joseph Lee and Dr. Amanda Kong in the Division of Public Health Sciences are seeking to hire ten summer interns as data collectors for a new tobacco prevention research project. The ten interns will be collecting data on the sale of tobacco products by attempting purchases at stores in Forsyth County, including convenience stores, gas stations, dollar stores, drug stores, vape shops, and grocery stores. The work schedule for this position is very flexible to be during daylight hours, but you are required to work at least 5 hours every week. The work location is the student office in the 525@Vine, 4th Floor.

Requirements

  • A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required.
  • Students must have a driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
  • Because the research protocol involves testing age limits, we can only employee students who will be age 18, 19, or 20 in the entire summer.
  • High School, Undergraduate, Master's or Postgraduate enrollment required.
  • Excellent planning, prioritizing, oral/written communication, interpersonal, problem solving, and team skills required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team member and ability to respond creatively to a rapidly changing environment required.
  • Computer skills required.

Nice To Haves

  • Students who are experienced with tobacco products or who have previously worked in as a cashier in a convenience store or grocery store are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs duties including patient and family visits, delivery of support services, studies, investigations, research projects, and other assignments.
  • Provides administrative coverage of the office such as answering phone and maintaining computer data.
  • Types documents such as letters and creates spreadsheets and presentations.
  • Assists with research projects, data analysis, and/or creating various reports.
  • Assists with entering data and filing.
  • Communicates verbally and in writing with all levels within the System and with the public.
