About The Position

The Camp Business & Dining Manager supports the daily administrative and hospitality operations of camp, including management of the camp store and oversight of dining hall service. This role ensures efficient administrative systems, accurate financial management, and a safe, welcoming dining environment for campers, staff, and visitors. The manager works closely with the Camp Leadership Team and Head Cook to maintain high standards of organization, customer service, food safety, and operational excellence. They act in accordance with the New York Department of Health (NYDOH), Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA), and the American Camp Association (ACA) standards, and demonstrate the mission of Girl Scouting and the positive impact of camp.

Requirements

  • Be at least 20 years of age by July 1, 2026.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic computer proficiency (email, CloverPOS, bookkeeping, and/or accounting systems).
  • Experience in food service, hospitality, retail, or administrative operations required.
  • Ability to supervise, support, and communicate effectively with staff and volunteers.
  • Demonstrated ability to stay organized, manage multiple tasks, and problem-solve in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Desire and ability to work with and relate to campers and staff from diverse backgrounds in an outdoor environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage challenging behavioral situations with youth effectively.
  • Patience, sense of humor, integrity, and an ability to adapt well to changing situations.
  • The acceptance and understanding that employment is at a sleepaway (overnight) camp and that work hours are long and irregular.
  • Possess the strength and endurance required to succeed in a sleepaway camp environment.
  • Clearance through the Sex Offender Registry and Criminal Background Check.
  • Willingness to prioritize the needs of Girl Scouts of Greater New York and Camp Kaufmann.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience handling cash, financial records, or inventory management preferred.
  • Prior camp experience and/or interest in the outdoors.
  • Experience or interest in the Girl Scout program and youth leadership development.

Responsibilities

  • Manage operations of the camp store, including ordering merchandise, tracking inventory, and ensuring the store is appropriately stocked.
  • Coordinate purchasing and pick-up of store merchandise as needed.
  • Prepare weekly sales and inventory reports and complete weekly bank deposits.
  • Prepare an end-of-season financial and inventory report.
  • Clean and prepare the camp store for Market Days.
  • Support camp administrative work, including record keeping, preparing reports, making phone calls, and handling financial transactions.
  • Manage camper funds, including collecting money on arrival days, securely storing funds, assisting campers with purchases, and returning money on departure days.
  • Manage camper devices (cell phones, tablets, smartwatches), including collection, secure storage, and return.
  • Coordinate camper mail procedures, including sorting and delivery.
  • Oversee daily dining hall operations, ensuring meals are served safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
  • Coordinate with the Camp Registrar for accurate meal counts and communicate attendance and dietary needs with the kitchen team.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, organization, and presentation throughout the dining hall and kitchen support areas.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
  • Monitor food handling procedures, temperature controls, and storage practices.
  • Track dining hall supplies and assist with food inventory management.
  • Support dietary accommodations in coordination with the kitchen team.
  • Work with the Head Cook to supervise and support dining hall staff, kitchen assistants, and volunteers.
  • Provide direction during meal service and help maintain a positive and collaborative team environment.
  • Create a welcoming dining environment for campers, staff, and visitors.
  • Address dining or service concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Participate enthusiastically in staff training, camp activities, and team meetings.
  • Assist campers and staff in emergency situations as trained.
  • Model camp expectations for cleanliness, punctuality, respect, and positive behavior.
  • Help ensure camp operations follow ACA and NYSDOH standards.
  • Provide excellent customer service to campers, caregivers, visitors, and staff.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Camp Leadership Team.
