About The Position

The CAM Legal Liaison I supports functions involving accounts in the legal process, including repossession, foreclosure, and bankruptcy processing. The role serves as a key contact for internal and external counsel and works under supervision, with regular contact across internal departments and with external customers and service providers. Customer interaction is limited.

Requirements

Associate’s degree and at least 1 year of relevant banking experience; or, in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 3 years of higher education and/or work experience, including at least 1 year of relevant banking experience.
Experience with word-processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
Detail-oriented.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree.
Experience in Collections or Loss Mitigation.
Knowledge of M&T Bank systems.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with internal personnel and outside counsel to establish effective legal strategies while maximizing cost-containment opportunities.
Contact business partners and vendors to ensure services meet predetermined service-level agreements.
Work with counsel and business partners to negotiate sale and settlement agreements.
Monitor workout strategies and related expenses to protect M&T’s interest in collateral and expected net return.
Review and approve attorney SmartSpend fees and track expenses at the customer level.
Develop a thorough understanding of the business, including its functions, processes, and operations.
Keep abreast of business and market trends that may affect the business and department.
Adhere to applicable compliance and operational risk controls in accordance with company and regulatory standards and policies.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points and applicable issues raised by external regulators.
Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Complete other related duties as assigned.
