About The Position

As Daymark’s Medical Director for California, you will serve as the senior clinical leader for the market, setting the clinical vision and standard of care for patients with cancer in your region. You will operate in a dyad leadership model, partnering closely with the Market Operations Leader to combine clinical expertise and operational excellence to deliver on our mission. This role reports directly to Daymark’s CEO.

Requirements

  • Board-certified physician (MD or DO) in medical, radiation, or surgical oncology, or a closely related specialty.
  • Active, unrestricted California medical license (or willingness to obtain one).
  • At least 5 years of experience practicing oncology, including direct patient care.
  • Experience leading or supervising clinical teams.
  • Comfortable being accountable for the clinical performance of a market or practice.
  • Familiarity with Palliative care.
  • Experience with, or a strong interest in, value-based and/or virtual and at-home models of cancer care.
  • Motivated to help build a new standard of care rather than replicate the status quo.
  • Familiarity with oncology value-based payment models such as the Oncology Care Model (OCM) and the Enhancing Oncology Model (EOM).
  • Ability to partner effectively with an operational counterpart, sharing accountability for outcomes while respecting distinct clinical and operational lenses.
  • Ability to use clinical and operational data to monitor outcomes, identify gaps, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Excellent relationship management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both internally with cross-functional teams, and externally with health plan and provider partners.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and be energized by building and iterating on new clinical programs and processes.
  • Comfortable with technology, able to learn new systems and tools.
  • Creative thinking about ways to leverage technology to improve care.

Nice To Haves

  • Interest in becoming board certified in Palliative Care if not already.

  • Collaborate on hiring, team management, and day-to-day operational leadership to develop a high-performing team and ensure clinical operations are both high quality and operationally sustainable.
  • Uphold the care model and quality standards for the California market by championing a culture of excellence, continuous learning, and evidence-based practice across the care team.
  • Serve as the collaborating physician of record for the market’s Nurse Practitioners, consistent with California requirements, and provide clinical oversight and supervision for other clinical staff.
  • Serve as the direct manager for one to two other market-based physicians.
  • Conduct clinical activities (up to 20% of effort), including direct supportive oncology patient care, second opinions, clinical trial advisory, and documentation integrity.
  • Support complex or high-acuity patients and clinical escalations.
  • Participate in remote supportive oncology on-call coverage as needed.
  • Partner with Daymark’s national leadership to refine and continuously improve our care model and contribute clinical expertise to the design of new programs, processes, and clinical workflows.
