Market Director

Gyde•Austin, TX
•$175,000 - $275,000•Hybrid

About The Position

Gyde is seeking a Market Director to lead agency origination across assigned metropolitan markets. The role is focused on identifying and building relationships with independent health insurance agency owners, qualifying potential partners, and bringing suitable prospects from initial contact through financial review, valuation discussions, and a signed letter of intent. Gyde’s partnership model is “buy in, not buyout”: agency founders retain a stake and remain involved in their businesses. The Market Director will map and rank agencies, conduct persistent multi-channel outreach, and develop trust with owners over extended sales cycles. The role works closely with Strategy, M&A, and Marketing, builds Gyde’s presence through industry relationships and events, monitors competitors, and maintains accurate CRM records. The Market Director will also use AI tools to support research and outreach and help develop Gyde’s origination playbook as the company expands into additional markets. The position is suited to someone with experience in insurance distribution, agency or FMO recruiting, carrier sales, or business development with small-business owners. Health insurance experience is strongly preferred. Travel to assigned markets, owner meetings, and industry events is approximately 25–50%. Gyde offers hybrid work in Austin or New York City and lists OTE of $175,000–$275,000.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in insurance distribution, agency or FMO recruiting, carrier sales, or business development selling to small-business owners.
  • Demonstrated ability to build a pipeline from scratch and meet activity and outcome targets in an outbound role.
  • Understanding of how independent health agencies make money, including commissions, renewals, book retention, and carrier and FMO relationships.
  • Command of territory mapping, multi-touch outreach sequences, cold calling, qualification frameworks, CRM hygiene, and weekly pipeline reporting.
  • Judgment to assess an owner’s motivation and prioritize time across multiple relationships and active deals.
  • Ability to build credibility with agency owners.
  • Comfort using AI tools for enrichment, research, drafting, and call notes.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, strong ownership, organization, persistence, and comfort with long sales cycles and delayed decisions.
  • Ability to travel approximately 25–50% to assigned markets, owner meetings, and industry events.

Nice To Haves

  • Health insurance experience, particularly in Medicare or employee benefits.
  • Agency M&A or valuation exposure.

  • Own agency origination across assigned metropolitan statistical areas and build and maintain a complete, ranked map of independent health agencies.
  • Conduct consistent multi-channel outreach to agency owners by phone, email, text, LinkedIn, and in person, including owners without direct contact information on file.
  • Qualify prospects based on line of business, size, growth, retention, and owner intent; distinguish potential cornerstone partners from bolt-ons and unsuitable prospects.
  • Build trust with agency owners over time, explain Gyde’s partnership model and platform, handle objections, and maintain relationships until the timing is right.
  • Bring qualified owners to M&A leadership and remain involved through financial review, valuation discussions, and a signed letter of intent.
  • Build Gyde’s presence in assigned markets through state association chapters, regional Medicare and benefits conferences, FMO and carrier relationships, and referrals from Gyde partners.
  • Track competitive activity, including national roll-ups and private-equity-backed buyers, and adjust market plans accordingly.
  • Maintain accurate CRM records so pipeline stages and next steps are visible weekly.
  • Use AI tools for research, data enrichment, sequencing, and call preparation to expand agency coverage while preserving a personal approach.
  • Help develop the origination playbook, including target lists, scoring, scripts, and outreach sequences, as Gyde adds Market Directors.
  • Travel to assigned markets, owner meetings, and industry events, approximately 25–50% of the time.
