About The Position

The Café Service Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and supporting daily operations of the Congregate (Café) Meal Program at an assigned café dining location for Meals on Wheels Sacramento County. This position ensures the efficient and compliant delivery of meal services while fostering a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive environment for older adults and community participants. Under the supervision of the Operations Manager - Congregate, the Café Service Coordinator oversees daily meal service operations, volunteer coordination, participant engagement, reporting, and food safety compliance. This role also provides operational support for Home Delivered Meal (HDM) routes, outreach activities, training initiatives, and other program-related functions as assigned. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong organizational and customer service skills, professionalism, cultural sensitivity, and a commitment to serving older adults with dignity and compassion. This position is classified as non-exempt (hourly).

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 35 pounds regularly and up to 15 pounds overhead, with frequent bending, stooping, and turning required.
  • Must be able to lift items up to 15 pounds above one’s head; requires frequent stooping and turning to lift items.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check and DMV record check.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California Class C Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Successful completion of an approved food handling certification within 30 days of employment is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with seniors, community-based programs or nutrition services preferred.
  • Knowledge and ability to work with older adults and diverse populations preferred.
  • Bilingual is a plus!
  • SERV Safe Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and oversee daily congregate meal service operations at assigned café location(s) in accordance with program schedules and contractual requirements.
  • Prepare, organizes, and packs hot or frozen meals for Cafes and Home Delivered Meal (HDM) routes as needed.
  • Fosters a welcoming and inclusive dining environment by serving as a professional and supportive point of contact for participants, volunteers, and visitors.
  • Monitors, documents, and maintains food temperatures and food handling procedures in compliance with California Retail Food Code and food safety standards.
  • Completes intake documentation for new eligible café participants and ensure confidential participant information is accurate, complete, and submitted timely to the program office.
  • Coordinates and manages meal reservation systems to support efficient meal service and participant tracking.
  • Supervises and supports volunteers assisting with café operations and participant services.
  • Fulfills mandated reporter responsibilities by reporting suspected elder abuse or suspicious circumstances to Adult Protective Services in accordance with agency policy and legal requirements.
  • Maintains accurate daily and weekly accounting records for participant contributions and program documentation.
  • Prepares timely reports, maintain organized records and filing systems, and ensure all reporting deadlines are met.
  • Supports outreach/community engagement activities to increase awareness/participation in café /nutrition services.
  • Establishes and maintains professional working relationships with participants, family members, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Provides customer service to participants, family members, volunteers, facility staff, community partners.
  • Assists with the planning and implementation of activities that promote participant engagement and socialization opportunities within the congregate meal program.
  • Assists with and makes café deliveries as needed.
  • Attends and participates in trainings, meetings, in-services, and organizational meetings.
  • Assists with onboarding & training of new Café Service Coordinators, volunteers, interns.
  • Additional operational and programmatic activities as assigned to support MoW mission.
