About The Position

Kinship Community Food Center is seeking a Café Assistant to support the Kinship Café team in delivering culinary excellence to the ThriveOn community and the greater Milwaukee area. The role also contributes to the Kinship Workforce Development Program. Areas of interest or expertise include food preparation and safety, customer service, cashiering, and kitchen cleanup.

The Café Assistant works in a commercial kitchen with volunteer helpers and in an open office workspace with an active team atmosphere. Kinship Community Food Center engages volunteers and neighborhood residents to address hunger, isolation, and poverty through food access, wellness, community engagement, and economic opportunity. Requirements

• High school degree or equivalent.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
• Highly motivated and self-directed, with a positive attitude and ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends.
• Demonstrated organizational, collaborative, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to interact with diverse groups.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to set priorities and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
• Openness to working within the model and mission of Kinship Community Food Center.
• Valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and transportation to support work activities.
• Ability to stand and sit for prolonged periods, type on a computer keyboard, and lift objects weighing 40 pounds or less.
• Ability to operate commercial kitchen appliances and equipment, a hand cart, and a cargo van.

Nice To Haves

• Some culinary experience is preferred but not required.
• Café experience is preferred.
• Receptiveness to servant leadership.

Responsibilities

• Make espresso-based drinks according to standard operating procedures.
• Work on a hot food line and prepare food to order.
• Complete prep lists, preparing local ingredients in a scratch kitchen.
• Follow recipes.
• Work professionally with a diverse group of coworkers.
• Provide a remarkable customer experience across all aspects of café duties.
