About The Position

The Riverside Transit Agency is recruiting for "C" Mechanic positions in the Maintenance Department. The "C" Mechanic will perform periodic and emergency maintenance procedures on all Agency vehicles assigned (cars, vans, trucks, and buses). This may involve assignment at either their Riverside or Hemet locations. Applicants must be available to work 7 days per week, including holidays and all shifts.

Requirements

• Graduation from high school or its equivalent with at least 1 year of experience in maintaining either autos, buses or heavy equipment.
• Completion of a minimum of classroom instruction consisting of three courses at an accredited college (repair of diesel engines, automotive, heavy duty or transit vehicles).
• Possess a valid non-restricted California driver's license
• Able to obtain a Class B license and medical certificate
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs
• Current valid non-restricted Class C Driver's License required
• Official DMV driving history printout (issued not more than 30 days prior to date of application) must be provided
• DMV driving history must be clear of suspensions for any reason within the past five (5) years
• DMV driving history must have no more than three (3) points within the past five (5) years
• DMV driving history must have no more than two (2) point violations
• No accidents which applicant contributed to cause within 3 years from application date
• Have appeared in court as required
• Bargaining unit employee who completes a minimum of classroom instruction consisting of three courses at an accredited college will meet minimum qualification requirements for promotion to “C” Mechanic.
• Will be required to pass job related skills test(s) (Written, Oral, Practical)
• Past year performance record: Discipline other than attendance & accidents - only 1 written warning in last year. Excludes accidents and attendance.
• No more than 1 Late Arrival within the last 12 months.
• No more than 1 Attendance Point in the last year.
• Preventable Accidents - only 1 written warning within the last year.
• Performance Appraisal ratings must be at or above "Meets Standards."
• Applications who request to transfer to a different department will be eligible to do so after 1 year of service.

Responsibilities

• Assist "A" and "B" Mechanics as necessary
• Operate Agency vehicles as necessary (non-revenue service)
• Make minor road calls (brake adjustments, flasher or bulb replacements, etc.) as needed
• Maintain proper maintenance and inventory records
• Assist Servicers when necessary in the servicing of vehicles and the performing of other related tasks as required
