About The Position

The Buyer is responsible for sourcing and purchasing a wide range of materials and supplies essential for production, including machine parts, hardware, grinding supplies, glass bead room materials, tools, safety supplies, and shipping supplies. This role also involves sourcing laser and pressbrake parts, and shares responsibility for ordering building supplies. Additionally, the Buyer oversees tool repair management, cultivates and manages vendor relationships, negotiates contracts, tracks deliveries, and supports cost reduction strategies. This position plays a crucial role in supporting production by troubleshooting machinery issues, assisting with job quoting, and conducting annual vendor re-evaluations to optimize pricing and reduce costs.

Responsibilities

  • Sourcing/purchasing of machine parts or related hardware
  • Sourcing/purchasing grinding supplies
  • Sourcing/purchasing glass bead room/work area materials or supplies
  • Sourcing/purchasing all other production-related materials including tools, and safety or general supplies
  • Sourcing/purchasing shipping supplies
  • Sourcing/purchasing laser and pressbrake parts or other consumables
  • Ordering building supplies, such as filters, equipment parts, fixture components, etc. (shared responsibility with facilities)
  • Overseeing management of tool repairs, including tracking the current working inventory
  • Managing part vendor relationships; negotiating contract terms and contracting process
  • Expediting scheduling of parts deliveries and tracking shipping when parts will be available
  • Sourcing new vendors while maintaining current relationships
  • Managing supplier relationships, including site visits, product education, trouble shooting to find better products or identifying new tools that would improve product quality
  • Supporting production by trouble shooting issues if machinery is not functioning correctly
  • Supporting the job quoting process with engineers as they identify parts or supplies needed to complete jobs and then assisting going out to suppliers to get quotes
  • Completing an annual re-evaluation of all vendors and current pricing agreements, in support of negotiating for better pricing and reducing production costs
  • Supporting value stream team cost reduction strategies and goal setting
  • Participating in continuous improvement program
  • Attending value stream meetings bi-weekly
  • Participating in required value stream training
