Requirements

  • Minimum of five years’ experience in an industrial purchasing position.
  • Direct material purchasing experience in a heavy manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient Microsoft Office skills and strong Microsoft Office Excel skills.
  • Proven ERP/MRP systems experience.
  • Ability to read blueprints and understand manufacturing processes.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others within a team environment.
  • Analytical ability to solve complex problems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of commodities and purchased material within a heavy manufacturing environment.
  • Rail product knowledge.
  • Knowledge of Association of American Railroad specifications.
  • APICS CSCP or CPIM.

Responsibilities

  • Works with suppliers regarding requirements planning.
  • Releases and expedites purchase orders and provides follow-up and material planning.
  • Executes supply chain functions encompassing external purchasing or subcontracting in support of manufacturing, including organizing prints and specifications, ordering materials and performing inventory adjustments.
  • Develop and maintain existing supplier base, consider new supplier contracts as appropriate.
  • Negotiate price, payment terms and communicate on-time delivery expectations with current and potential suppliers.
  • Work with suppliers, engineers and operations to resolve quality and delivery issues.
  • Coordinate engineering changes as they impact purchased material.
  • Provide purchasing support for production.
  • Manage temporary outsourcing where appropriate.
  • Ensure maintenance of proper inventory levels.
  • Adhere to company purchasing and accounting policies and procedures.
  • Manage assigned purchase requisitions and issue purchase orders to satisfy the operational objectives.
  • Monitor supplier performance with the ability to intervene as appropriate to correct unacceptable service levels.
  • Implement cost reduction initiatives as related to purchased product.
  • Maintain MRP material master settings in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Respond to changing market price and product availability trends that could impact operational targets.
  • Ability to interact with multiple work groups and internal customers.
  • Participate and/or lead special projects as required.
