Johnson & Johnson External Scientific Innovation (ESI) leverages its global network of open innovation ecosystems to support emerging companies with resources, experience, partnerships, and venture connections across a broad healthcare spectrum, including pharmaceutical and medical technology sectors. The Business Operations Manager is responsible for leading and supporting sourcing, portfolio management and for developing, monitoring, and analyzing KPIs across all operational areas. This role will help drive key initiatives and strategic long-term goals through scheduled tracking and reporting to create visibility of these metrics across the organization. As part of a small and focused team, each person working at Johnson & Johnson plays a critical role. The Business Operations Manager will be responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction through the effective management of day-to-day Business Operations, accountable for planning, organizing, and providing timely responses to inquiries, and resolving issues. The Business Operations Manager will work in partnership with the Sr. Director of Incubation ENA, and the Global Sr. Director of Strategy & Operations to support the mission of ESI, including, but not limited to compliance, budget management, and reporting. In this role, the Business Operations Manager is responsible for engaging in a cross-functional team and supporting operational and financial compliance.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a related field is required.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years in the life sciences industry, including at least 5 years in business development, sourcing, and data management.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel (Macros, Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, PowerPivot) and experience with Power BI.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce is required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to generate actionable insights through data visualization.
  • Keen attention to detail and a proactive approach to investigating anomalies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a collaborative mindset.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership and independent thinking skills.

Responsibilities

  • Portfolio & partner operations Support the Sr. Director of Incubation, ENA, in managing relationships with portfolio companies and partner incubators.
  • Maintain JFORCE and other systems with up‑to‑date portfolio data and milestone progress.
  • Track and report on partner incubator portfolios and drive SME engagement.
  • Ensure incubator agreement obligations are met; oversee onboarding, offboarding, contracts, and internal tools.
  • Virtual Engagement Program Lead end‑to‑end design, development, launch, and iteration of a virtual engagement program serving ENA and cross‑regional audiences.
  • Define program strategy, goals, target audiences, roadmap, and KPIs.
  • Create content frameworks and engagement flows (live events, on demand content, workshops, cohorts, community forums) and design participant journeys and personalization tactics.
  • Plan and execute virtual events and webinars and deliver networking and investor engagements in partnership with the Sr. Director of Incubation, ENA.
  • Finance & commercial operations Lead budgeting, forecasting, and site P&L management to meet financial targets and ensure healthy cash flow.
  • Integrate cash flow and income impacts into business decisions; drive operational efficiencies to meet 2026 targets.
  • Ensure timely membership fee collection, non‑PO expenses, manage payment terms, and maintain 100% financial compliance.
  • Oversee payment processing and financial forecasting to support business planning.
  • Operational standards, governance & compliance Implement and maintain policies, procedures, processes, and governance controls to ensure efficient, effective, and compliant operations (including HCC and audit requirements).
  • Define, track, and enforce process controls; monitor KPIs and adjust controls to meet objectives.
  • Data, reporting & analytics Develop and apply IT‑based systems and analytics to analyze datasets, forecast inquiries/applications, and support decision‑making.
  • Resolve data issues across systems to ensure timely, accurate reporting; improve data capture and long-term sustainability of processes.
  • Define critical success factors and KPIs; build dashboards and produce routine and ad‑hoc reports, trend analysis, and root‑cause insights; translate findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Continuous improvement & market insight Capture feedback from startups and stakeholders; assess competitor incubator programs and market trends.
  • Use data and analytics to propose and implement initiatives that leverage technology to streamline processes, increase efficiency, and strengthen accountability.
  • Stakeholder engagement & partnerships Build and maintain strong relationships with portfolio companies, partner incubators, and internal operational leaders; align activities to stakeholder goals.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to assess and prioritize opportunities and manage operational components of third‑party partnerships in ENA.
  • Proactively engage with cross‑regional teams and represent the program at external events as required.

Benefits

  • Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/ performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.
