About The Position

The Research Animal Program Business Office at Princeton University is seeking an engaged and motivated Business Office Intern to support the administrative operations of a busy, high‑impact research program that serves the University’s scientific community. This internship is a 20–25 hour per week position, with the possibility of additional hours as needed during peak periods. It is ideal for a candidate interested in learning how a research support unit functions behind the scenes, including exposure to administrative operations, compliance requirements, and the regulatory framework that governs animal research programs. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, curious, detail‑oriented, and eager to learn how administrative, financial, and operational processes come together to support a complex research environment. The intern will gain hands‑on experience working with staff across the research enterprise and will develop practical skills in communication, organization, and workflow management. This is a temporary position offering up to $20 per hour, depending on experience.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs, ability to open packages, boxes, and materials, and move furniture for set-up of events and meetings.
  • Ability to walk a 1/2 mile a couple of times a day if needed.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to complete detailed assignments by assigned deadlines and to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (oral and written).
  • Must have proficiency with technology and Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe Acrobat.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with day‑to‑day office operations, including scheduling, meeting coordination, document preparation, and general communications.
  • Learn how compliance and regulatory requirements shape the administration of a research animal facility; assist with organizing and maintaining required documentation.
  • Shadow the procurement workflow, including ordering medical equipment, research animals, supplies, and specialty products; assist with receiving and inventory tracking.
  • Support higher‑level departmental functions such as data entry in business software systems, reviewing invoices, and learning how billing processes are managed.
  • Assist with planning small departmental events, managing timelines, and supporting internal communications.
  • Work comfortably within the research community and handle sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Contribute to ongoing organizational projects, help streamline workflows, and support initiatives that enhance service delivery across the department.
