About The Position

Vertex Education is seeking a Business Manager to serve as an outsourced Chief Financial Officer for public schools and as a team leader for the in-house accounting team. The School Business Manager will work with school leadership and serve as an expert on all things related to school business. The successful candidate will effectively manage, establish, control, optimize and direct all support activities for multiple clients and ensure the implementation of the business support function & strategy. This role involves engagement and team management, accounting management, grant management, and human resources management. The position is responsible for effectively overseeing the entire engagement, serving as an expert in school business to the client, and ensuring client retention. The ideal candidate is comfortable multi-tasking to manage multiple deadlines and changing priorities, eager to learn new technologies, willing to follow procedures, works well with others, understands the value of high-quality customer-centric service, and can remain professional under difficult circumstances. The role includes planning, coordinating, and supervising the operation of the business office to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting
  • A minimum of 2 years in School Business Office or similar environment OR a minimum of 4 years of experience in a supervisory accounting role
  • Proficient using business software (e.g., MS Windows, MS Outlook, MS Word, and MS Excel, Adobe PDF, etc.)
  • Proficient using computer equipment and associated peripherals (e.g., computers, laptops, scanners, printers, smart cell phones, etc.)
  • Proficient in Cloud computing environment (e.g., MS Office 365, online banking, online storage, etc.)
  • Familiarity with accounting concepts and terminology.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft computer programs (advanced knowledge of Excel, pivot tables, formulas, etc.)
  • Knowledge of database structures, data verification methodology, operating systems, standard software applications.
  • Knowledge of payroll accounting.
  • Ability to pass employment verification and background check
  • Ability to sign non-compete agreement
  • Works well with others under pressure (i.e., client management and staff, vendors, governmental employees, and K12 Accounting staff and management).
  • Maintains a professional demeanor at all times even under adverse circumstances.
  • Empathetic to the needs of clients, vendors, and co-workers.
  • Flexible and able to adjust to changing priorities and frequent deadlines.
  • Willing to learn new software and able to follow written procedures (e.g., K12 Accounting processing model).
  • Maintains confidentiality of client and company information, methods, and procedures.

  • A team player with the ability to supervise a team.
